Ms. Jeannette Chau’s story:

My family was impacted by the Chinese Exclusion Act. My Grandfather came to Canada in 1921 and he and several of my relatives had to pay the $500 Head Tax when they came. It is why my own father was born and raised in China instead of Canada, as my Grandfather could not afford to pay the Head Tax to bring my Grandmother to Canada. My Uncle Alan Joe, who is still living, still has his original Head Tax certificate. I am the 27th generation of the Zhou family.
